I am excited to inform you that two different people have placed a challenge to help support our hockey program.
Jeffrey and Janis Jones will match any donation that is given to the men’s hockey program dollar for dollar up to $ 2,500. Their match is in effect between May 27, 2010 and August 31, 2010. In addition, the Jones family has made a donation to help cover costs.
Also an anonymous individual has made a challenge to any alumni, former players or family and friends. This donor will again match any donation dollar for dollar up to $ 25,000.00. All gifts to be considered for this matching gift must be given between September 1, 2010 and December 31, 2010. With a little bit of work this fund would take care of any problems SU Hockey may face for many years to come. On top of this challenge, this same individual has contributed a large donation to help cover last season’s expenses.

Do Having Baseball and Football at a college benefit each other?

Kyle Parker of Clemson, Golden Tate of Notre Dame, Toby Gerhart of Stanford, Jared Mitchell of LSU. The list goes on and on. Actually, there were approximately 22 two sport athletes(mostly baseball and football) across Division 1 sports in 2009. Having both sports on campus can be a major motivating factor when superior two sport athletes are choosing their college to play at.
There are many more two sport players throughout the history of D1 sports. Do you think having both Football and Baseball would benefit your local college athletic program that sponsors football but not baseball....or vice versa? Tell us your thoughts below.
